Storm Doors Overview

Many homes will have a screen door, but these are very different from storm doors. Although you can put storm doors on any door of the home, you usually see this type of door on the front of the home. With this, you typically see two styles, one being a full storm door and the other being a front screen and storm door combination. The all glass style is popular but then when warm weather approaches, it cannot be opened to allow fresh air into the home. However, the screen and storm door combination gives you the best of both worlds.

Storm doors offer a number of benefits. First, they are an excellent way to seal out cold or hot air, which means that your home remains more comfortable on the inside and your monthly utility bill remains low. In addition, storm doors also offer better security in that they are thicker than your average screen door. Now, if you go with a combination door, you will also enjoy benefits such as better insulation value, the option to open a part of the door for fresh air, and again, better security although not as good as with a full storm door option.

Storm doors can also enhance the appearance of the home, improving curb appeal. Many storm doors are beautifully crafted. Therefore, when added to the front door, they look nice, making the home look more complete. Then, if you go with a full glass storm door, you keep the visibility to the outside open while enjoying a tight seal that keeps inside temperatures more comfortable. You will also find that full glass storm doors allow more sunlight in over a combination door.

The bottom line is that storm doors are designed as a practical solution, specifically in colder regions by blocking out drafts, minimizing energy loss, and again, adding an extra measure of security for the entire family. Storm doors actually work by protecting the primary door so when the door is open you have more controlled ventilation and sunlight. However, storm doors can also be a great solution when trying to keep your beloved pets inside and annoying insects out.

Today, only a few companies manufacture storm doors but each offers several lines from which to choose. Two of the top brands include Pella and Larson. Take Larson for an example. This company alone offers consumers more than 40 unique types of storm doors that range in price from $80 all the way to $450. With this, you can surely find a number of storm doors that would work for your home, providing you with wonderful benefits.
