Storm doors will provide that extra layer of insulation on one of the most vulnerable areas of the house, as far as energy loss goes. These doors are not typically insulated, but their mere presence serves to help block air from moving both into and out of your house, and when we are talking energy, incremental differences can mean a lot of money saved over the long term.

Storm doors are also a great way to keep your house cool in the summer, or even to get some nice fresh air circulating on new spring afternoons, without taking the risk of allowing unwanted pests access to your house. An ideal door will come equipped with screens that will allow the air to pass into your house without also allowing in airborne pests. If you have a cat or other pet who likes to go outdoors, do not worry, as there are many pet door models that will fit into your screen door and allow your pet to roam freely.

Some doors also allow for a measure of security, with some companies advertising storm doors as security doors. Do not be overly confident in your door as a security measure, however. They are generally flimsy, and an intent criminal will not experience much trouble in breaking through it. A steel reinforced door will still allow a few moments of extra time for you to get out of the house or call the authorities if someone is trying to gain access on a day when you have left the main door open.

The payoff, of course, in security is that while these doors are generally easy to break into, they are also very easy to install. Most storm doors can be installed with a quick six-step process. The most important step (as in any home improvement project) is to take your door measurements before purchasing your door.  Once you have made your selection based on your measurements and the style of your home, the installation of your door will take no more than 45 minutes. It is simply a matter of attaching the hinges to the door, fitting the door to the opening and attaching the frames, and then installing any locks or closers- it really is that easy!

There are many advantages to purchasing a storm door for your house, and along with the easy installation and low prices there is no reason why you shouldn’t incorporate a storm door as soon as possible.
