Screen doors and storm doors are basically second exterior doors. These doors fit over the primary entry doors. The sole purpose of screen doors and storm doors is protect your primary door from the wear and tear of the weather and other outside conditions. They are usually made of metal or vinyl and occasional wood.
In northern climates many people have a screen doors which can be swapped out for glass in the colder seasons. In these cold regions storm doors are a great way to block drafts and they minimize the loss of energy. As well as being an extreme layer of protection from the outside elements. Additionally they help to keep pets inside and unwanted critters outside. Most traditional screen doors have the same basic structure. One type has two glass panels while another type has a top glass panel and a metal lower panel. Screen doors and storm doors attach to their frames with hinges and usually have a closer which helps the door shut when opened. Many have springs which help the door from slamming shut or being pushed opened with to much pressure or force. Closers come in two forms: hydraulic and pneumatic. While these types of screen doors are seen in older houses they seem to be disappearing from new constructions. This is because there is a new type of screen door which is becoming increasingly more popular. People like functionality as well as appearance. The new screen doors have great new look and add style and class to any home's curb appeal. Several years ago the conventional aluminum mill finish was replaced by by white and dark brown. These two colors evolved into a number of different colors including sand, almond, green, and other non traditional colors. Once manufacturers saw there was a market for stylish screen doors they went on to develop ways to improve the over all look of screen doors. Additionally screen doors are useful with kids especially as a gateway between the backyard and your house. They are easy to open and lightweight making screen doors kid friendly. Major changes have included hidden screen and internal hardware. These doors are better constructed and offer modern lines. Options include sold brass hardware, full sized glass and screen panels, etched glass, keyed deadbolt locks, and beveled glass. While it is true that screen doors do not look the way they used too and are not used the same way, they still exist and their popularity is thriving.
