Screen Door: Choosing a Convenient One

Screens are vital when it comes to window and door operation. A screen door provides several benefits to the home owner. A screen door allows for an open main door in the summer time, keeping the bugs out while letting air circulate to help cool you down, and ventilate your house. Unfortunately, traditional screen doors have also lacked visual appeal, blocking the view of the outdoors with a dark wire mesh that almost serves to occlude the entire view, even when your window or door is closed.

There are now several manufacturers that have tackled the problem of unsightly screens on doors, though, and these are some of the top models that I have come across in hardware stores and other stores specializing in home improvement products.

The ideal models of screen door are those that slide out of sight when it is time to close the door. Most door manufacturing companies are now designing screen doors in any style imaginable, so that they blend seamlessly with the rest of your house in both style and color.

As for those pesky screens, innovative companies such as Phantom and Andersen have designed models which slip out of the way when not in use. These companies have several types of screen door, and they all come with low-profile housing that is designed to encase the screen when it is rolled back. These screens are made to fit any size of door, including double French doors, single in-swing doors, single out-swing doors, sliding doors, oversized openings and doors, front doors, and windows.

Not only do these companies offer several size of screen door suitable to several openings, they also offer the screen and housing according to the size of screen you want. There are models that fit over half of the door, the full door, and even models that slide back and forth in sequence in layers of three or more according to the size of your door.

A screen door is vital in keeping out insects such as flies, bees and wasps in the summer while allowing the cool air of the outside to bring down the temperature inside you house.  A screen door is especially useful at night, when the lights form inside your house will cause the bugs to flock. Without a screen you may miss out on the best time of day to allow air into your house without causing an indoor plague of biblical proportions. You could choose to purchase an old style screen door, one that attaches to the outside of your door frame and is a permanent fixture in your home. However, as far as aesthetics and view is concerned, it is much better to go with the hideaway models that have now become available through the innovations of several companies.
