When approaching a home for the first time, the thing you notice first is the front entrance door. Because first impressions have always been everything, this should be the main thing that visitors and guests find visually appealing about your home before they ever step one foot inside. The wooden entrance door has traditionally been the main choice for most people as “the mark” of what type of person was inside. Wood has always been number one, but recently the fiberglass and steel doors have begun to make their mark in the home decorating fields.
The wooden entrance door has been the traditional choice for many years due to its strong, sold construction. It is highly durable and lasts a long time, while offering security from intruders and insulation in the worst of weathers. You can get doors in many shapes, colors and styles in present markets that will enhance the decor of all homes. The designs are top of the line in quality and aesthetics with versatility for the entrance door. Fiberglass and steel doors are actually much more secure than the traditional wooden door, and if it is properly installed will be even more insulated. You can purchase them already primed and have them delivered pre-hung in their frames, ready to be stained or varnished. These new types of doors are constructed from steel or fiberglass skins, with a sold foam core of polyurethane. This core has thermal breaks that reduce heat transmission through the frame, also sealed between the door and threshold with a vinyl door sweep for the weather tight barrier. They have some needed improvement over the traditional wooden door of strength and insulation, and have given the entrance door another choice for the buyer besides aesthetics only. The steel composite door is the most solid door available for the entrance door, at least for the residential door on the market. They are strong with a no-frill look at a good bargain price. There is always an area of need in the unglamorous door field. The entrance door is not always for a home or apartment, as some will be in warehouses or businesses that need security and price to be the main priority as compared to aesthetics and glamour. Another front entrance door is the French door, which is the lightest and most decorative entry door available. It has decently enough insulation but below average security for intruders. It comes in two doors with decorative glass and wood that swing in or out, depending on the type. Beautiful and extremely elegant, it is a plus for any entrance door except the lack of low security. |
