Door Drying Rack

Door Drying Rack for Painting Cupboards

A door drying rack is an essential tool in painting out the cabinets or cupboards in a Kitchen. Painting cupboards and cabinets is a great way to update the look of any room especially the kitchen. For those folks with a limited budget this is often the only way to update. Cabinets, customized or bought off the shelf, can be extremely expensive and hard to install.

The hardest part of painting cupboards is painting the doors. The best way to avoid the mess of cupboard door painting is to use a door drying rack. Essentially this is a device which holds the door upright and in place allowing you to easily paint each side without having to hold on to the door. The door can then be left in the rack until it is dry.

If you are thinking about painting your cupboards be sure to check what they are made of first. Laminate and melamine cupboards should not be painted because paint does not adhere well to the surface. Wood cabinets are the ideal for painting. The best tool for painting cabinets is a short foam roller between four and six inches. This is just the right size for painting the face frames of cupboards quickly and efficiently. Additionally, foam rollers can be used on doors placed in a door drying rack. Due to the small size of the roller it can easily accommodate the panels often found on cabinets doors.

While the color of paint you choose is up too you make sure you pick a satin enamel paint. In a kitchen where things get regularly dirty especially with oils, enamel paint is ease to wash down and clean. Once you have your paint color, and your tools it is time to complete the prep work. It is important to remove all hinges, knobs, and related screws. Many sure you set these aside in a safe place because you will be reusing them. Tape off any adjacent wall space that you do not want to be painted and also along the floor. Make sure all your drawers are empty and remove them. All surfaces that are going to be painted must be cleaned with trisodium phosphate or TSP. This can be purchase at your local home improvement store. Once cleaned all surfaces should be rinsed with water and dried. If there is damage to any surface fill the holes with putty and let dry. After a quick sand with 220 grit sandpaper, you are now ready to paint.

The frames and sides of the cupboards will be easy to paint especially in comparison to the actual doors of the cabinets. A door drying rack can be purchased in the paint isle along side brushes and rollers. This is a great tool for effectively painting out cabinet doors. It holds the door for you and you can easy paint the front, back, and sides all at once. Once you have painted the door place it in front a fan to increase the drying time. A door drying rack can save you time, money, and most importantly the mess of painting kitchen cabinet doors.
