Frameless shower doors increase the value of the home, believe it or not. So when you have a choice whether to put one in or not, do it. They always look good, they always look modern and up-to-date as compared to old-fashioned and traditional look we all grew up with. Rust and hard water in the frameless shower doors do not collect in the corners and along the runners, continuously needing cleaned, which in itself is wonderful! Also the frameless shower doors open in and out, while the framed shower doors open only one way.
Most of us are familiar with the good old shower curtain more than the newer frameless shower doors or the framed shower doors. But the shower curtains are lucky to make it through the year, while the glass shower doors usually have a limited lifetime warranty. The water standing on the floor is nothing we don’t remember, and the shower door keeps the water inside the tub or shower. The traditional framed shower glass enclosure in one shower glass company, Basco, is framed with aluminum on all sides as compared to the frameless shower doors. Aluminum is usually always low-priced, sturdy and pretty easy to get your hands on, so if you have a budget to follow, the traditional framed doors are the ones to get. The frameless shower doors do not have the aluminum framing on any side of the glass which allows no build-up at all to develop. Plus you can purchase several of quality levels to choose from. The “Thin Line” is available in both frameless and framed enclosures, but in the frameless enclosure the side panel is completely framed and the door panel is not. The next level is the “Ultima Frameless” shower enclosure where the side panels are framed the same as the “Thin Line.” The door is completely frameless with a 3/8" clear thick glass with an acrylic pull handle mounted through the glass. The third level is the “Luxury Frameless” with is a European style 3/8" or 1/2" thick clear glass with very little if no metal framing. The frameless shower doors seem to have more of a quality look and durability yet it somewhat expensive. When you compare the frameless shower doors to the framed shower doors, there are some minor differences you don’t see up-front. The framed door is made from 3/16" or 1/4" safety glass; utilizing metal to strengthen the enclosure. The frameless shower door is made of 3/8" to ½ “tempered glass with polished edges. This is strong enough and sturdy to use with only minimal metal for security. |
